Cara Bristol Brings Warrior to Wicked Wanton Wednesday

Cara Bristol is here today driving my spell checker crazy with her newest sci-fi release.  She brings a whole new lexicon to Wicked Wanton Wednesday and spanking fiction with her creative and fascinating third in the Breeder series...  Warrior.

Stay tuned after the excerpt for a wonderful and informative interview about trends in ebook spanking fiction and some personal tidbits as well.  (This is my tease, FYI)

Warrior (Breeder 3) blurb:

A female fighting for freedom.  A male armed with determination. Can they save their people?

As a despotic Qalin marches through Parseon intent on conquering every province, Commander Marlix pledges his sister to another Alpha to protect her. Desperate to decide her own fate, Anika flees and finds refuge with the guerrilla resistance movement against Qalin. Marlix’s aide Urazi hunts her down to bring her home to fulfill her duty. But when love blossoms between them, and provinces fall to Qalin, Anika and Urazi realize home has ceased to exist, and they are all that stand between the people of Parseon and the end of the world.

Warrior is the third and final book of the Breeder science fiction romance series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

Warrior (Breeder 3) excerpt:

She stared at the bloodied body. “Is Grogan dead?”

Urazi knelt and checked for a pulse against the alpha’s neck. “Yes.” He peered up at her. “Who is he to you? Has he used you?”

“Monto, no!” she gasped, not considering the alpha’s intentions pertinent. “Grogan is the leader of the Guerilla Resistance against Qalin and Artom, which I have joined,” she explained. Urazi’s eyes narrowed, and she added, “Grogan was training me and other breeders to fight.” Breeders could approach a sentry without arousing his suspicion then immobilize him, allowing male guerrillas to storm the post and secure it. She thrust back her shoulders with defiant pride. She, a female, was capable of supporting the war effort in a productive way.

Urazi rose to his feet to examine the paper target. “You are an excellent sharpshooter, but winning a battle requires more than skill with a crossbow. You would not fare well in hand-to-hand combat.”

Anika shrugged. “If I have a crossbow, I will not need to engage in hand-to-hand combat.”

“Did it help you today?” Urazi strode to Grogan’s body, and yanked up his bloodied uniform shirt. Attached to the alpha’s nipple was an insignia ring. Urazi unclipped it and carried it over to her.

Anika stared. A single star. Province one. Qalin.

“You have joined with the enemy to strike against your own people? You would betray your Alpha? Your sibling?”

Qalin’s insignia lay in Urazi’s palm, damning, but untrue. So untrue. “No! How could you say that? The Resistance plans to strike against Qalin. Against Artom.”

Urazi tucked the star into his uniform pouch.

“But maybe Grogan is an infiltrator acting alone,” she argued, fighting against the insidious memories; the ease with which she’d been accepted into the camp when her comrades learned of her familiarity with both Marlix’s and Dak’s provinces; Grogan’s constant but subtle questions about locations. He’d asked if she’d ever encountered Marlix himself. At the time, she’d feigned ignorance of the latter, fearing they would send her back to him.

Anika clutched her throat. What if Urazi’s accusation was correct?

“If he were an ordinary alpha or beta, I might concede it possible. But he is—by your account—the leader. I do not believe in coincidence. I have been observing the camp. Neither Marlix nor Dak would have sent females into combat.

“The Resistance you are so proud to be a part of is using you as expendable cannon fodder.”

Maddie’s Intimate Author’s Corner

I’m thrilled to have Cara Bristol in the corner today for the first time.  Cara is always on top of trends in the spanking fiction community and I was excited to pick her brain on some hot topics.  <rubbing hands together in anticipation>  Here we go…

MT:  Cara, get us started by tell me a little bit about your new book, the third in your Breeder series.  An inspiration, a funny anecdote, or a mishap during the process, something won’t find in the pages or the blurb.

CB:  In the Breeder series, I used every single letter of alphabet for names, including q, x, y, and z! In Warrior, just for fun, I included an anagram of my own name, both my pen name and my real name. Can you find them? (Hint: the anagram of my pen name is a spelling variation).

MT:  Oh goodie, a puzzle.  I can’t wait to see how many get it right.  You’re going to have to give me a pass, I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Its at the top of my TBR, though.

How about this one.  I ask all sci-fi authors this burning question Star Trek, Star Wars, or Battlestar Gallactica???

CB:  Star Trek!

MT:  And of course the follow up,  Captain Kirk or Picard which ever your generation may be, Han Solo, or Captain Adama.  If the answers is ‘who?’, this interview is over.  Just kidding.

CB:  Toughie! It’s close to even, but if I had to pick, I’d say Picard. Kirk was a bit of a loose cannon.

MT: I’d agree with Picard, if you like the sexy accent and the older man thing he’s got going on.  But have you seen Captain Adama???  I should have clarified its Captain Lee “Apollo” Adama.  Does that change your answer???

MT:  Next question.  Writing a series is a huge undertaking with interwoven story lines and multiple characters, how do you keep everything straight?

CB:  I know some authors will use a series manual to keep track of all the details, but other than keeping a list of names (to ensure I didn’t keep repeating the same letter), I kept it all in my head. I wrote them in close succession, and I pantsed every one. Sometimes I had to go back to a previous book and check “facts,” but I knew my characters so well, I didn’t have to do that very often.

MT:  You’ve touched on my next question, plotter or pantser?  (Plotter:  methodical process including an outline, notes and highlighters, or pantser:  fly by the seat of your pants, write frenetically and go back and clean up the mess.) What is you writing process?

CB:  I am a pantser who plots and then ignores the outline and pants anyway. I outlined Warrior, and followed it about 1/3 the way through, then veered off. I think what I came up with on the fly was so much better than what I had “hard-plotted.” You can see remnants of my original plot, though. I had intended that the villain (Qalin) would plant a spy in the good guy’s (Marlix’s) inner circle. So I created two possibilities: Zoulin the guard and Nibor the cook. They’re still in the book but they aren’t spies. Even though I write on the fly, I do not write frenetically, and there is a not a lot of clean-up. I think it through as I write—which is why I write slow. About 500 wph when I’m really truckin’.

MT:  I’m thinking 500 wph in a standard 8 hour day.  Nice!
The next question is about publishing.  To self-pub, or not, that is the question.  Do you or have you self-published?  What do you find are the pros and cons?

CB: After releasing 14 titles with publishers, I have ventured into indie waters. The rights to Unexpected Consequences, the first Rod and Cane Society series spanking romance, reverted to me, and I self-published it. And Warrior, the third Breeder book is self-pubbed.

I think there are four cons to self-publishing. One, I think if you are new to authoring, self-publishing can overwhelm you (even though it’s not that hard). There are so many decisions to make and you may not have all the necessary contacts. Second, many writers self-publish too soon. If you go with a publisher who offers GOOD (and that is the qualifier) editing, you will learn so much and produce a better product for it. You’ve heard the rules, and you think you’re doing it right, but nothing teaches you better than seeing your manuscript a red-lined! Third,  because of  no. 2, there is still stigma attached to self-publishing. The perception that indie books are not as good as traditional books still exists. Fourth, if what you want is a print book in a brick and mortar bookstore, you are still better off to go with a traditional publisher because as an indie, you will not have the same access to distribution. But, if you are focusing on e-books (which IS the wave of the future, like it or not!), no. 4 is not an issue.

The pros: first, the potential to make money is far greater in the electronic book market because you are not giving away half your royalties. You can take advantage of more markets. A publisher might hold the print rights to your book, but never print it. If you’re indie, you venture into that market, or audio, or foreign translations. You can take advantage of vendor incentives like KindleUnlimited or being able to list your book for free to boost sales.

Which leads to the second big pro: control. You have complete control over what to release and when and how it will look. One of the things that has bedeviled me was the timing of releases. I wanted to pace out my books so that they generated a continuous income stream. I’d bust my ass to get a manuscript to my publisher early, but they didn’t  get to it right away, and there went my schedule. Once I had three books release in the same month. I was torn in three directions and couldn’t promote any of them effectively.

I’ve presented four cons and only two pros, but the cons are tiny and the pros are HUGE.

MT:  Good insights.  Particularly about print rights.

I’d just add one con:  time.  If you are a moonlighting author like myself, it is nice to lay much of the post production work at another's feet.  Fortunately, the publishers I work with value the authors opinion, or at least like to keep us happy so that they ask for input on covers, offer final copy review, etc.  Otherwise, with a forty hour per week job in addition to writing, I’d be much less productive as a do it myselfer.

MT:  Social media is a wonderful thing, but it also takes a lot of time away from writing.  How do you balance the two?

CB:  People always say you have to set limits on social media participation so you have time to write, but really, the reverse is what needs to happen. You need to set a daily goal of how much you’re going to write and stick to it. Any time left over can go to social media.

MT:  A daily goal for writing?  What a novel idea.  No pun intended, really.  I love that you have such discipline.  How do I get some of that?  I write when the spirit moves me, which is feast or famine.  When it’s famine time, that’s when I blog and chat on FB, unless I get sucked in by a friend, which often happens.

MT:  There has been a lot of discussion in social media and the blogs of late about changes in the e-book industry, including difficulties with self publishing and also the recent crack down on erotic content including titles, cover art, and the scary Amazon dungeon.  How have you been affected and what do you see as the future impact on authors?

CB:  OMG. About a month before the release of Warrior, Breeder, the first book, was adult tagged and thrown into the dungeon. That meant that when the 3rd book released, the 1st book would be invisible. Crisis! When Loose Id, my publisher, was unable to get the book untagged. I spent a frantic week on the phone with Amazon and got the adult tag removed. But after all the drama, I understand Amazon’s position, truly I do. They are trying to avoid salacious packaging on their site. From my observation, they don’t care what’s in the book, they only care what buyers (and potentially, children) see as they browse. So cover and blurb are the targets. Some books clearly, obviously are adult . Others clearly, obviously are NOT. But there is a huge gray area in the middle, and that’s where authors and publishers need to make smart, business decisions. “Adult” is in the eye of the beholder, and Amazon is the beholder.

MT:  As a former parole of the Amazon dungeon, I feel your pain.  I’m glad you were able to fix it before your new release, which would have been devastating.  We know that a new book in a series catches the eye of new readers and your older books soar, too.  I’m sure it was horrible.

How about some fun stuff before we go?   Tell me 5 fun facts about yourself that would surprise us if we knew, sexy or mundane is up to you…

CB:  My five...

1.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

2.  I’m an only child.

3.  I love to crunch numbers. I track my book sales, figure out percentages earned (from various vendor sites), maintain a monthly household budget, estimate investment growth, etc. This is fun to me. But, I don’t bother to balance my checkbook. If I get within $20 of what the bank says I have, I figure it’s close enough.

4.  I have not been to a movie in maybe a decade. I don’t like sitting in a theater for two hours.

5.  My husband encouraged me to write erotic romance because he said, “sex sells.” And then he was shocked by what I wrote.

MT:  Hahaha!  I love #5.  I guess Mr. Bristol learned to be careful what he asked for.  I’m also with you on #4.  I don’t see the appeal of sitting in a crowded theater with a bunch of coughing, chatting, chair kicking, wrapper crinkling strangers.  Except for the popcorn, which can’t be beat.

That wraps it up for us.  Thanks for chatting with me Cara, it was so much fun.  Come back any time and best of luck with Warrior.  I know it will do great!

Celebrating the release of Lanie's Lessons with a long excerpt on WIP it Up Wednesday.

It was delayed a day due to technical issues on Amazon KDP, but it's finally here.

Woo Hoo!

I know you're going to love getting know playful, passionate and creatively adventurous Ethan Fischer as he teaches his high stress attorney wife how to let go.

Lanie's Lessons

Attorney Lanie Fischer is a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom, but the stress of her caseload has been mounting relentlessly. She puts on a brave face at work, but behind closed doors Lanie has become an emotional wreck, and her husband, law professor Ethan Fischer, is tired of watching her self-destruct. She’s not sleeping, she’s lost weight, and their sex life is starting to suffer. Something has to give, and as far as he is concerned it is time for a radical new approach. From now on, Ethan decides, his wife will be spending quite a bit of quality time over his knee with her bottom bare, learning some lessons she has needed for a long time.

Some of Lanie’s spankings turn out to be purely erotic, ending with the hottest sex she and Ethan have ever had, but others are meant to teach her what happens when naughty wives disobey their husbands and fail to take care of themselves. Unconventional though it may be, to her surprise Lanie soon begins to crave both her husband’s sexier spankings and his discipline as well. But can she live happily as a loving wife and obedient submissive at home even as she battles in court at work every day, or will the conflicting demands tear her apart.

Publisher’s Note: Lanie’s Lessons is an erotic romance novel that contains spankings, sexual scenes, elements of medical play and BDSM, anal play, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

In this excerpt, Professor Fischer is followed back to his office by a persistent student.  Little does he know he is in for quite a surprise.  Enjoy...

“Was there something else?” Ethan asked as he made his way around his desk and unloaded his burden.  Taking a sip of coffee, he pulled out his chair and promptly choked.  Sputtering and coughing, he tried not to suck the remainder of his Americano into his lungs as he gazed at his half naked wife hiding under his desk.  Correction, in white knee socks, a pair of girlish white KEDS, and a minuscule plaid skirt that left nothing to the imagination, she was practically naked especially since the big red bow that was draped like a sash across body left her breasts completely bare.

“Are you alright, sir?”

Startled, Ethan stared in alarm at the young man who stood between the twin wing back leather chairs opposite from him.  He stepped closer to the desk, his legs hiding Lanie as best he could.  He wouldn’t put it past the exuberant student to round the desk and try to give him the Heimlich.  Putting up a hand, he shook his head, still unable to talk through his wheezing.  He cleared his throat as he grabbed for some Kleenex to dab at the coffee droplets staining his shirt.

Still coughing, he scowled at the yammering Jacobs when he noticed a full length trench coat on one of the chairs.  Beside it was a long slender box tied with a red bow, an exact match of the one Lanie had draped across her naked body.  The flash of her image had his cock stirring—damn.  He had to get rid of Jacobs before he noted the hard on bulging in his pants.  Looking up, he saw Jacobs staring at him expectantly.

“Excuse me, what was that?”

“Can I get you some water?”

“No, I’m fine.  The coffee went—” He stopped as soft fingers slipped inside his pant leg, brushing his ankle.  Clearing his throat again, he tried again.  “The coffee went down the wrong pipe.”

As Lanie’s hands teased up the inside of his leg, he felt her face nuzzle against him.  When her hand slipped between his thighs, he shifted, trapping her wandering hand.  Instantly hard, he sat abruptly, his hand going beneath the desk.  Finding one of her two braids, he tugged it in warning.

“If you want to discuss this further, although it’s pointless, you’ll have to make an appointment.  I have a conference call in a few moments.”

That was a lie; his afternoon schedule was clear.
Although he planned to block it off to see to the near naked nymph who was currently torturing him beneath his desk.

“I have Wednesday afternoon open.” The young man suggested as he dug out his calendar and flipped through the pages.

Ethan didn’t have a clue what he was rambling on about as Lanie’s free hand crept over his thigh and latched onto the bulge beneath his zipper.  He tugged harder on her braid and wrapped it around his hand, but she continued.  When she eased down his zipper, he barely suppressed a groan as soft fingers reached inside his boxers.

He barked sharply at the kid as he dismissed him.  “Schedule with my secretary, Jacobs, not me, and close the door behind you as you leave.”

As soon as the door slammed, Ethan rolled back his chair.  “What the hell, Lanie.”

“Happy Birthday?” was her tentative response.

It's a Five Alarm Fire on SatSpanks. Ouchie!!!

Not a Spank or Treat SatSpanks, but with a long excerpt allowed today, I hope its a treat that you'll enjoy anyway.

It's almost here.  Two more days until the release of Lanie's Lessons.  I decided I've teased you with the elevator scene enough, so here is the culmination.  Enjoy.

Lanie's Lessons

A whoosh and a thwap sounded as a thin line of flames burst along both bottom cheeks.  Holy hell!  What was that?  It felt like a cane, but where on earth would he have gotten one in a freakin’ elevator.  She sucked in a deep breath of air at the sting, twisting her neck to see what it was.

“Eyes front and be still,” he ordered sternly, his free hand clamping firmly around her waist to keep her in position.  In the same low rumbling voice, he warned, “You’ve earned a dozen and then we’ll talk.  But if you keep moving, I’ll add more.”

Another whoosh and thwap followed, then another.  He laid swipes—with whatever evil weapon he possessed—all over her bare bottom, never striking the same spot twice.  By the tenth sizzling stroke, she was dancing up on her toes and her hands flew back instinctively as she tried to soothe the blazing fire he’d ignited along her skin.

“Hands, Lanie.”

She didn’t want any more.  All she could think about was rubbing the burn from her flaming butt.

“Now, Lanie.  We can’t hold the elevator forever.  Do you want security or the fire department prying open the doors and finding you with a bright red bare bottom?  I’m okay with it if you are, but I don’t recommend it.”

An image flashed before her eyes of grinning young fire fighters staring down at the five alarm fire on her naked ass.  She shook her head.  She’d be mortified, but the men would surely delight in repeating the lurid tale of her humiliation from now until eternity.

Resigned, she moved her hands back to the rail and held on.  Looking down on her white knuckled grip, she actually tried the deep breathing Ethan was always touting.  Two more… that was nothing.  Ethan’s warm hand appeared before her eyes, palm up.

She felt his lips brush against her ear as he murmured gently, “Take my hand and hold on, baby.  Two more and we’re done.  Nothing to it.”

She latched onto his strong hand and clamped down hard.  Although she’d just told herself virtually the same thing, she scoffed at his words.  Nothing to it?  That was easy for him to say.  Still, it amazed her how he always knew what she was thinking, and exactly what she needed.  As the final two strokes fell low across her cheeks near her thighs, she hissed at the fiery burn.

“That’s the last,” he whispered, shifting beside her.

She moved into him without hesitation, her arms winding around his waist, anchoring herself to his sturdy frame.  As she leaned into him, she felt his hands slide down to cup and hold her burning backside.  Biting her lip, she fought back the tears.

“Please rub me, Ethan.  I’m on fire.”  He squeezed her gently, caressing her heated flesh with his broad palms.  It felt good, so good, that she whimpered as he eased her.

“Look at me, Lanie.”  She tilted her head back and melted into the warm depths of his eyes.  “Better?”

He wasn’t referring to her rear end, and she knew it.  “Yes, sir.  I needed that so badly."

WIP it up Wednesday

Lanie's Lessons

No longer a WIP, but not quite ready for prime time, its still in production. Release date is right around the corner, scheduled for October 27th.

Woo hoo!

Having been accused of being a tease the last time I shared this scene, (Qui? Moi?) this time I'm sharing an expanded version.

What will you accuse me of after this one??? Well, <wink> we'll just have to wait and see.

*****

“You need to settle yourself.  Try breathing in and counting to ten.”

“You know that holistic mumbo jumbo doesn’t work for me, Ethan.  Maybe we should stop the elevator and you could fuck me right here.  That’s the only thing that seems to settle my nerves.”

Silence encompassed the car.  Inwardly, Lanie cringed as she replayed her words.  What had gotten into her?  Ethan’s arm reached out, his long finger extended and he pressed the stop button.  An alarm sounded.  Immediately, she started backpedaling.

“I was joking, Ethan.  Really!  We can’t have sex in here.  ”

“Turn and face the wall. Grab the rail with both hands.”  Always a daunting figure standing nine inches taller and outweighing her by at least seventy pounds, but a stern or angry Ethan was menacing especially when he stepped closer, crowding her into the corner.  Glancing up at him, she expected to see a dark cloud of anger, or at the very least irritation, but his face appeared calm, almost stoic. Through the low rumble of his words, she could tell he was affected.  That sound alone made her heart pound in her chest.

“I’m sorry, honey.”

“Now you are. The thing you’ve yet to learn is to think before you open your mouth and spew vulgarities and sarcasm.  Face the wall and grab the rail with both hands.  We’ll have a quick lesson in deportment, I believe that’s what they call manners in school.  You must have missed that class.”

She winced as she turned.  He had never yelled or ever raised his voice, but his tongue could be lethal.  Razor sharp and deadly accurate when the situation called for it.  She deserved a punishment for her rude behavior, but in an elevator?

“What if there are security cameras?”

“Security will get an eyeful then, won’t they?”

“Ethan!”

“I checked, Lanie,” he sighed.  “There are no cameras.”

Facing the wall, her fingers blanched as she gripped the brass rail.  She tensed as she felt his hands slide around her waist and locate her button.  Soon the zipper was undone and he was easing her pants down.

"Spread your legs so that your pants are held snug around your knees.   That will keep them off the floor and from getting dirty.”

Always considerate, her Ethan.  His fingers found the waistband of her panties next.

“Please, honey.  Can’t we do this when we get home?”

“No.”

Succinct, too.

“I want you sitting on this tenderized butt all through dinner.  Maybe it will serve as a reminder to curb that acerbic tongue.”

In Need of a Little Discipline? Check out Wicked Wanton Wednesday

Looking for a good disciplinarian???  Natasha Knight can give you advice that’s for darn sure.  If you don’t get that time warp thing between the States and Holland to chat her up, have no fear.  Her new co-authored book of short stories with Casey McKay is just a click away.

Spanking, it’s got it.  Discipline, yep, got that covered.  Naughty ladies in need of some chastisement… need you ask.  Tsk tsk tsk.

The Disciplinarian

Blurb:

The role of a disciplinarian can come in many different forms in a woman’s life. These stories are about six different women who find themselves taken in hand, and taken over the knee.

“The Disciplinarian”: Jennifer didn't know what a disciplinarian was. She didn’t know adults could be spanked as punishment, but when her boss catches her stealing, she is told if she doesn't want the police involved, she'll have to submit to a session with The Disciplinarian.

“Guilty As Charged”: Julie has the hots for her cop neighbor, Brad, who is also a professional disciplinarian. When he catches her driving recklessly, he decides she might need more in her life than one spanking a week.

“Consequences”: Every action has a consequence, and in twenty year-old Andrea's case, when she's caught breaking hotel rules, she is given a choice: pack up your things and leave immediately or submit to corporal punishment. But what Andrea never expected to learn out of this was that discipline, administered with love, can form a powerful bond.

“Paying Rent”: When Amber gets kicked out of college and ends up on Tony’s doorstep, she doesn’t anticipate Tony taking an interest in her life, or holding her accountable for her actions; including paying her rent on time. When he threatens to spank her, she decides to push back, but how far is too far?

“The Penitent”: Marcus Corran is not a man to tolerate liars or thieves, so when he catches young Marlene, an employee in his bookstore, doing both, he decides the best way to deal with her actions is a good old fashioned, bare bottomed, over the knee spanking.

“The Agreement”: Lindsay and Nick have been dating for two years and they have an agreement. So when Lindsay deliberately lies, Nick decides to use a more creative form of punishment.

All stories are M/f except for “Consequences” which is a F/f spanking story. The stories depict situations between consenting adults who believe in a good, old fashioned spanking to get to the bottom of a problem. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.

Excerpt:

This is a scene from Consequences, my short about a girl who works at a hotel and is caught dating a guest, which is a no-no. She is just being offered some choices for her actions. This is the one F/f story in the collection:

"Do you know what corporal punishment is?" Tanya asked.

I swallowed, my heart racing, my breath catching, my sex suddenly throbbing. It was a similar feeling to when she'd had me stand in the corner but much more intense.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Good. My proposition is this: if you'd like to keep your job here, you submit to being physically chastised for your transgression."

I only stared at the items for a long while.

"Andrea, I am doing this for your own good. It's better you learn your lesson this way than have the next Jason Drummond come in and take advantage of you again. You're young and you have your whole future ahead of you. I hate to see you screw it up the way so many others have before you. Now do you agree to submit for punishment?"

I looked up at her. "You'll do it?" I asked.

She nodded. "Yes. We'll have a total of three sessions as I understand you saw Mr. Drummond three times, is that correct?"

"Yes, Ma'am."

"The first two will be administered by me in my office and the third will be administered by Mr. Raines. All spankings will be delivered on the bare."

"Bare?" I asked, processing. "Even in front of Mr. Raines?"

She nodded. "Those are the terms," she said, taking a piece of paper from the printer. "If you agree, sign this contract. If not, please pack your things and leave the property."

"I can't lose my job," I said, just touching the paddle on the table.

She reached out and put her hand over mine. "Andrea, I didn't have anyone do this for me when I was your age and I regret it now. The discipline will be painful, but you'll learn from it."

I looked at her, wondering if she herself had been hurt when she was younger? If that was why she was cool and distant.

I nodded. "I'll take what you're offering," I said. "I will submit to being physically punished."

Tanya handed me a pen and I signed my name to the contract giving her permission to discipline me in this manner. Once I had, she filed it away and turned to me, both her expression and her tone stern.

"Stand up, please," she said.

Maddie’s Intimate Authors Corner:

MT:  So, your newest is a co-authored book of short stories.  Tell us a little bit about how this worked, was it a compilation or a joint venture?

NK:  The Disciplinarian: a Collection of Short Spanking Stories is more of a compilation. I feel like I’m always writing serious stories and needed to just work on something lighter, especially after Given to the Savage. I approached my friend, Casey McKay (whose books I love), and  told her what I was thinking and asked if she'd be up for joining me. She said yes - Casey's easy like that ;) and before we knew it, we had six hot discipline themed stories to publish. We published through Baronet Press which is Casey's brand new publishing company, and it's our first time trying Kindle Unlimited so it's available exclusively on Amazon and is also a free read as long as you're part of the KU program.

MT:  I can’t do short, I’ve tried but am an epic failure.  How do you get all you want to say in so few words?

NK:  I know! I've read your tome like books (and love them) J I think I just really needed a break from writing the more serious stuff and just focused on some of the hotter aspects of discipline rather than developing a whole story. These are more a peek into a life (through a very naughty window), but I feel refreshed and ready to start on my next book. The timing worked well too because the kids were just getting back to school and I was also finishing up another book while writing the shorts. It all just aligned.

MT:  What is you writing process?  Plotter or pantser?  (Plotter:  methodical process including an outline, notes and highlighters, or pantser:  fly by the seat of your pants, write frenetically and go back and clean up the mess.)

NK:  I wish I were more of a plotter but I’m a pantser. Ideas don't even fully take form before I start writing.

MT:  Social media is a wonderful thing, but it also takes a lot of time away from writing.  How do you balance the two?

NK:  Ha! I am at an advantage living in Holland. You all are not up when I am so I get a good chunk of hours for writing before you all wake up and I can goof off… Truly though, I have to choose as I think most of us do. Time is limited and writing is my priority.

MT:  There has been a lot of discussion in social media and the blogs of late about changes in the ebook industry, including difficulties with self publishing and also the recent crack down on erotic content including titles, cover art, and the scary Amazon dungeon.  How have you been affected and what do you see as the future impact on authors?

NK:  Well, Given to the Savage was originally His to Breed and it got picked up within 36 hours and sent to the dungeon. It was disheartening as I loved the title, the cover, the blurb and the story. My publisher was great though. He acted really fast and pulled the book. We did sacrifice the title and watered down the blurb as well as cutting some of the cover, but the content is the same and the book did recover. I'll talk more about that last part for now as it may give hope to other authors that if your book is picked up and tagged, it is possible for it to recover, but self published or traditionally published, you have to act fast. The longer it sits in the dungeon, the more difficult a recovery it will have. Amazon is the biggest retailer out there. I make probably 85% of my sales on Amazon and I know I just have to play ball, you know?

MT:  That's tough.  I'm glad you were released from the dungeon in short order.  I've been there, done that, didn't get a T-shirt.  That is not the type of dungeon I ever want to visit again.  Seriously!

Fun Stuff:

MT:  Tell me 5 fun facts about yourself that would surprise us if we knew, sexy or mundane is up to you…

NK:  Ooohh…I'm kind of boring. OK, here goes.

1.   I get totally embarrassed when I read edits on a sex/spanking scene. Like totally red even as I'm sitting alone reading it.

2.   Oh, I brew beer! That's a fun fact.

3.  My husband and I love IPAs and they don't have them in Holland - or they're just starting to get them - so we decided to do something about it and started to brew our own! It's YUM! If you're ever over my way, I will share…  (MT:  was this two different fun facts or one?  I lost count.)

4.   OK, another fact. Let me think…I hate shopping - that's not that interesting. I think I have 'resting face bitch'. I'm not sure, but I suspect… J

5.   OK, last one, I just started this thing where I 'read things like a man' and try not to read between the lines or take things personally! It doesn't work all the time but just know if I say something, I mean it as I say it and I just hope everyone is that way with me!

Those were not that exciting I think…

MT:   Exciting is subjective.  Also, if everyone’s lives were all that exciting would we write fantasy and who on earth would read it.

I did have to google IPA.  It returned International Phonetic Alphabet and India Pale Ale.  I'm thinking it was the latter.
